A decade of building porous materials for cleaner chemistry.

Dr. Suman Chirra is an MSCA-CZ Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic, where he works on the design and synthesis of porous materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), and heterogeneous catalysts. His current project focuses on quinone-functionalised MOFs and related quinone-based materials for efficient visible-light-driven CO₂ reduction. His wider research includes photo- and electrocatalytic hydrogen production, CO₂ capture by adsorption, gas separation, and mesoporous materials for catalysis and drug delivery.

He earned his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Osmania University and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW), India. Dr. Chirra’s career is defined by high international mobility and a track record of securing competitive funding, including the MSCA-CZ, DAAD, Erasmus+, and TEEP@AsiaPlus fellowships. The DAAD RoHan scholarship was awarded but not utilised due to COVID-19 mobility restrictions. He has held research tenures at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Kaohsiung Medical University, and National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan), and formerly served as Assistant Professor and Head of Chemistry at Woxsen University, India.

To date, Dr. Chirra has authored 26 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals such as Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Energy & Fuels, and Materials Today Communications, together with 4 conference proceedings and 2 Springer book chapters, with one further sole-authored chapter accepted and two first-author manuscripts submitted or under revision. Six journal articles are first-authored. His research impact is evidenced by 372 citations, an h-index of 11, and an i10-index of 12 (Google Scholar, October 2026). He also holds four registered Indian industrial designs under the Designs Act, 2000. A committed member of the global scientific community, he is a Life Fellow of the Indian Chemical Society (elected 27 June 2026), holds Life Memberships in the Society of Carbon Dioxide Research and Innovation (CO₂India), and the Catalysis Society of India (CSI), and is a member of the Czech Chemical Society (ČSCH). He serves as Guest Editor for Catalysts (MDPI) and as an expert peer reviewer for international scientific journals, including Scientific Reports and Materials Today Chemistry. In his reviewing activity includes the Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology.

His current fellowship is funded by MSCA Fellowships CZ, project No. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_010/0013415, supported by the European Union and the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports under the Operational Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (OP JAK). As researcher and principal investigator (fellowship holder), he is responsible for materials design, synthesis, characterisation, photocatalytic studies, and dissemination.
